GENERAL FUNCTION
This role will be responsible for developing a deep understanding of the consumer by category to create a long-term pipeline of innovations and commercialize new innovation for our portfolio of eyewear brands. Our category development lead will oversee development of innovation product ideas/concepts/claims, category innovation strategies, and new eyewear technology spaces (in conjunction with product development) while leading cross-functional project teams to develop the new products from concept to launch readiness.
MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Understand and drive the consumer journey specific to the category:
Focus on how to expand the category to accommodate/cover the consumer journey from entry to exit
Global category expert with a focus on driving category knowledge, innovation and overall growth plans
Partners with Consumer Insights to drive global research plans
Category insights, consumer/market trends and competitive landscape
Consumer validation of product/technology idea
Leads overall category innovation/portfolio development plan and growth strategy
Includes new concepts /proposition for the next 3 – 5 years
Partners with Product Development team to ideate/develop new technology
Product development and operations validation
Develop and complete marketplace/size of the prize analysis
Responsible for developing & supporting consumer segmentation strategies for global markets
Works with Brand Marketing teams to provide insights and direction for innovation launch plans/campaigns
Collaborate with Global Category Director, Trade Marketing to develop and execute full consumer/shopper category plans.
Partners with Product Development, Consumer Insights and Business Insights to drive category/brand innovation planning and development
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor’s degree
10+ years of experience in marketing/brand marketing, business/category development/management
Marketing, brand management, innovation or strategy experience in consumer goods or over the counter
2+ years of dedicated/primary focus on innovation
P&L/budget management, business development and project management experience
Experience leading within a matrix organization, integrating or leading cross functional teams/efforts
Category Management/analysis and Consumer insights experience
Experience/strong knowledge of brand marketing
Global or multiregional business experience
Strong strategic thinking combined with brand marketing expertise
Equally comfortable with strategy development and driving execution
Skilled in managing a complex portfolio and executing business analytics
Capable to lead through influencing; able to build strong working relationships with a diverse group of internal stakeholders
Ability to engage with senior management
Strong sense of ownership and problem solving abilities; ability to manage multiple projects while focused on key priorities
Team player and comfortable working with colleagues across different functional areas
Embraces change and transformation within organization
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Previous experience in eyewear, fashion or apparel
New product development/management experience
